Hello I'm Ori, Nigerian American lifestyle blogger and career consultant encouraging you to live boldly. Be original.

The Girl With the Pen

Canden Webb is one of my favorite poets in the DMV because her talent and work ethic are inspiring. She Co-Leads get together's for local creatives once a month at Sunday Social and she's part of the Beautiful Minds Entertainment team featuring Christ-centered poetry.

In her poetry book, she shares pieces that proclaim Gods' glory, discusses love, relationships, and faith. This book is easy to relate to because she mentions issues that affect the black community and African American women. Her touching tribute to Mike Brown almost brought tears to my eyes yet was comforting. I'm taking my time to read this book because I wanna enjoy it. At this point in our society, I need to consume Christian literature that tackles the issues that shake my faith and keep me up at night and that's exactly what this book does.  I highly recommend that you support her and other black writers especially during Black History Month.

There are many amazing pieces, but below is my favorite one so far.

The Lord knows when I’ ready
He knows what’s best for me
I am His humble servant
I have peace in the decisions He makes on my behalf
I will be so in tuned to Him that I will follow when He goes
straight and turn when He turns
I will be content in His love alone
He will fulfill his word
I will let that love alone determine my value
I am worth death
I will live according to His sacrifice
I will desire what He desires for me.
