We all get to that point in life where we start going through the motions. Wake up, go to work, drive through traffic, get home, take a nap, watch TV, eat dinner then start the process all over again. Life isn't always exciting, as habitual beings, we get into a routine and eventually feel stuck. You may begin to complain and under-appretiate your life just because you feel stuck. When you feel in a haze or revolving door of responsibilities and routines, here are some tips on how to spice up your life.

Listen to upbeat or new music

I have Apple Play and it's a life saver because I have access to most new songs. Whenever I catch myself listening to the same music, I look for new songs/artists to listen to. I'm really feeling electronic music cause it puts me in a good mood.

Have a dance party

I know I'm not the only one that gets caught dancing alone with my headphones. Listen, a quick one woman dance party to my favorite African songs puts me in the best mood especially when I've had a very boring day. The best part is that its free fun, don't have to guy an outfit, drive anywhere or spend any money.

Pick up a hobby

Learn to do something new and focus on perfecting it. Occupy yourself with something that interests you and you will rarely get bored. You will eventually find people with similar interest and create a new community of friends.

Read an exciting book

Y'all know that I love reading, but I'm putting effort into reading more fiction, poetry and lighthearted books that entertain me and keep me captivated. Books are one of my favorite ways to escape a boring day.

Facetime a Friend

I have to remind myself that I can facetime my friends because I usually just text people all day. Texting is an impersonal and distant form of communicating even though my emoji's and gifs are always on point. It's better to have face to face conversation so that you get some form of human interaction.

It is highly appearing that our health is in some ways strongly dependent on other people. Social support and social interaction have a positive influence on human beings’ physical and mental health. It lowers occurrence of stress, depression, anxiety and also highly affects our endocrine-immune system. So at the end, we can say People need People.

Get a gym membership

Working out consistently will keep you physically and mentally healthy. I recommend joining group workout classes because the social environment will motivate you to be consistent. Being in a group environment will keep you accountable and encourage you to commit to a workout routine.

Mental Health Benefits of Working out:

  • Reduces Stress

  • Releases Endorphins (Feel good chemical)

  • Boosts Self-Esteem and Confidence

  • Boost Brain Power

  • Encourages Social Interaction

Enjoy the great outdoors

If you cannot afford a gym membership at the moment, then go for a walk, run or a hike. One day, a friend forced me to accompany her to walk her dog. I grudgingly agreed and we began a 2-mile walk around a beautiful lake around her neighborhood. When we got back from the walk, I felt refreshed, my mood was lifted and I no longer needed coffee cause I was more awake. Moral of the story is, do not underestimate the power of nature, enjoy your surroundings.
